An Autumn Drive in the Columbia River Gorge...

(Cape Horn, Columbia River Gorge)
Last Friday we took our annual drive up the Columbia River Gorge from our home in Vancouver, Washington to The Dalles, Oregon to pick up our order of fruit from Muirhead Canning. Sometimes we drive east on Hwy. 84 on the Oregon side of the gorge, but this year we drove up Hwy. 14 on the Washington side of the gorge. It was a gorgeous day for a drive.

We crossed the bridge over to the Oregon side of the gorge in Hood River. From our longtime home in Portland, Oregon, and now in Vancouver, Washington, the west side of Mt. Hood is a familiar sight. As we drew near to the cannery, Mt. Hood's north side could be clearly seen. We lived in the Hood River valley in the late eighties and early nineties, and this view greeted us each morning from our front room window! What a blessing it is to live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest!

 still following,

  1. So beautiful! I fell in love with the gorge the first time I saw it, and we've been back a couple of times. My hubby has to be seen at the VA in both Portland and Vancouver, so it's always a treat to do some exploring while we are there. Great shots! Have a wonderful week!

  3. The contrast of yellow and green is gorgeous! I don't see much autumn color (when it comes in your spring!) as we have mostly pine trees.

    1. We have a lot of evergreen trees, too, but enough deciduous trees to get some autumn color!

  4. Oh my goodness it's so beautiful. I lived in Washington in the very early 80s when I was...well...much younger than I am now. We never got to Vancouver or Oregon though which I now regret. If only we knew then what we know now...

  8. We have driven the Gorge from NE Oregon to the Portland area so many times in the 19 months since our only granddaughter was born...I keep saying we need to drive the Washington side sometime. Your photos make me even more determined to do it. Beautiful images of the exceptional scenery.

    1. Grandbabies are worth driving for! The drive on the Washington side is a smaller, more windy road, but a prettier one in my opinion.

  9. Lovely photos. Washington and Oregon are two states that I have not yet visited, but will one day. I most definitely want to see the Columbia River Gorge the I do.
