When you love white….

afghan 1.jpg

I love white.

(If you follow me on Pinterest you will notice how much predominately white rooms attract me.)

I love the look of white furniture, white plank or beadboard walls and white painted floors.

It all looks so neat and clean and fresh.

But I know me, I know my Hubs, I know our family…I know that unless I lived alone, a mostly white decor would be a constant battlefield of me against the mess.

I take that back, it would probably not work even if I lived alone.

So, I use a lot of white accents and white trim throughout the house, and soft pale gray on most of the walls.

Then the other colors you will also see predominately in my home are blues, reds and warm wood tones.

In our living room we have a navy blue leather couch and chair.

It was a good quality investment and has worn wonderfully for over a dozen years.

A couple of times a year I clean and condition it with products made especially for leather furniture.

The rest of the time I just wipe if off with baby wipes!

The pine flooring, light gray walls, white curtains and white accents here and there keep the room from looking too dark.

(Just because it sits next to the leather chair, I thought I'd show you this huge vintage tin I bought at a yard sale for $4.

I saw one just like it selling on ebay for $79!)

old ladder 1.jpg

Next to the couch an old wooden ladder leans against the wall and holds a vintage grain sack and other linens.

You can see what I mean when I say red, white and blue are my go-to colors.

old scales 2.jpg

My old blue dresser sits against the wall between the couch and chair.

in most of my rooms you will also see a touch of green.

A living plant is a breath of fresh air, visually and literally!

Queen Anne's lace 1.jpg

Another touch of white has been seen on my table all summer long in this white and gray tote, sitting atop a white and blue cotton towel.

The tote has had many changes in content, however.

When fall arrives, I have a darker wood tote that will take this one's place.

All of the furniture in the dining room is wood, the table and benches, the dish cabinet and the Restoration Hardware knock-off shelves.

With the touches of white accents and the light walls and curtains, things still look light and bright.

kitchen 1.jpg

In my kitchen we painted the oak cabinets white two summers ago.

Unfortunately, the painter only primed and painted and didn't do any pre-sanding, so we are going to have to redo some of the doors and drawers where paint has chipped.

Other than that, I love the light and bright look.

Here you see my red and white "curtains" made from cotton kitchen towels.

kitchen 2.jpg

Touches of red and white are seen here and there throughout the whole kitchen.

kitchen 4.jpg

So, I love white, but red and blue and gray too, with a touch of live green plants here and there as well.

Are you an all white decorator or do you have other go-to colors?

Habitrails...

justfollowingJesus.com 72912b.jpg

We have a busy four lane street near us that runs north and south through our city.

Our car has helped create the grooves in the pavement these past 15 years, as this is one of the main routes we drive to and from the store, the bank and all manner of our regular errands.

It's our habitrail, the avenue we could practically drive in our sleep because it's so familiar to us.

One afternoon this week while running errands, I had to make a left turn onto this perpetually busy street, crossing two lanes of traffic.

Amazingly, no cars were coming from either direction.

Sweet!

I drove to my next stop and did my next errand, then again had to make a left turn onto this busy street.

Again, absolutely no traffic in either direction.

Unheard of!

"Thank You, Jesus!", I said as I turned onto the street and headed towards home.

Suddenly, I realized I've got another habitrail, grooves I'm creating in the thought patterns of my mind.

Almost three years now, I've been gathering gratitude, counting my blessings.

Thanking God is becoming a habit.

Even for something as simple a break in the traffic...

-or flowers in bloom in our backyard

-or youngest granddaughter's first time on the swing

-or taking Miss Blue Eyes out for frozen yogurt on a sunny, summer evening

…oh, so many reasons to give thanks.

Wherever you go...

Joshua 19.jpg

I can remember a time in our life where we had two ministry doors open to us at the same time.

I prayed for God to show us the right way to go.

While, at times, I believe God has one way and only one that He wants us to go, in this instance, God very specifically led me to this verse.

It was as if He said, "It's your choice. Those are both good options. Which do you want to do? I will be with you wherever you go."

I'm not talking here about a choice between right or wrong, or even a choice between something God has told us to do and something we'd rather do, but a choice between two good and right options.

In that case, I think we can boldly step forward, knowing He is with us wherever our wherever may be!

Friday's Favs…..Table for Two

table for two 1.jpg

Who says a meal outdoors has to mean paper plates and plastic utensils?

table for two 2.jpg

Why not use that sweet little cross stitched table cloth that Mama made all those years ago?

Shouldn't it be seen and enjoyed instead of tucked away for safe keeping?

table for two 4.jpg

Queen Anne's lace gathered by the road side and placed into a vintage, aqua blue canning jar makes a fitting centerpiece for an outdoor table setting.

table for two 5.jpg

Queen Anne's lace always reminds me of the scene in the Anne of Green Gables movies where Anne is gathering the last of summer's Queen Anne's lace on a bluff overlooking the sea.

In the movie, you can see she's a bit melancholy about summer's end.

I feel that way, too.

These Meakin English Ironstone dishes were found while out thrifting last year.

I paid something like 3 or 4 dollars for the whole bunch.

The goblets are from the Dollar Tree!

The silver is a thrifted mix and match for around 25-50 cents apiece.
