27 million lost sheep…

103verse

My son-in-law and daughter had a showing of Nefarious:Merchant of Souls at their church on Wednesday.

It’s a documentary on global sex trafficking.

I thought I knew about the severity of the problem.

It’s so much bigger, so much worse, than you can imagine.

Here are some of the ugly facts about sex slavery:

27 million people around the world are enslaved.

Human trafficking is a 32 billion dollar a year industry,

bringing in more revenue than all major sports combined.

Human trafficking is the fastest growing criminal industry in the world.

2 million children are involved in the international commercial sex trade.

80% of all trafficking victims are women and children forced into the sex trade.

The average age of entry into the commercial sex industry in the United States is 13.

How can you become an abolitionist against sex slavery:

Prayer: through prayer we can defeat the forces of spiritual darkness enslaving people in sexual slavery and bondage (one suggestion is to pray whenever you have to stop at a red light)

Awareness: aggressive grassroots awareness campaigns can sway public opinion.  To make cultural heart change we must expose this.  Please help spread the word.

Giving: give to organizations like Exodus Cry who are praying, raising awareness, and taking action, such as legislative work, social advocacy for victims, building task forces, and developing LightHouses (safe houses for victims.)

We cannot let these 27 million lost sheep be forgotten.

Still following,

Elizabeth

  2. AMEN! My eyes were first opened to the horror of this through a favorite Christian show. Later, both of my daughters told me about efforts in their own small college city to shut down places where enslaved women were working as exotic dancers or that type thing. This is a moderately sized city in the heart of Georgia. It's not just thousands of miles away, we MUST stand.

  3. Elizabeth...are you aware that Portland is a "hub" for sex trafficking? Our future daughter-in-law is a child therapist with Lifeworks NW; she began there more than a year ago. It wasn't long before they realized that they needed to form a "division" for the sexually exploited clients. That's what she does all week--provide therapy services to those children.

  4. This has come to the heightened attention of Southern Baptist women in the last year or two, and recently to my own town. Wichita is in the top 5 cities of origin for trafficked children. There is a grassroots group that has formed here recently to support the wonderful services we already have here (ictsos.org). Awareness is key. Have people put the National Trafficking Hotline number in their cell phone so they can report it if they think they might see a trafficking situation (888-373-7888). Prayer is a given. Vital: pour your love into at risk children and youth before they become tomorrow's runaways, victims and pimps!

    Thanks for sharing!

  5. This is the sickest thing. It's so huge it's hard to know what to do. Thanks for sharing this travesty with your readers.
