Friday Faves...Living Room Window Coverings

We bought our new to us house because we fell in love with the openness and light.
However, there comes a time when you have to cover the windows if you want any privacy,
and if you don't want the direct sun to damage your furniture and fade your flooring.
After looking at other options and getting some bids,
They filter the direct sun when it is shining on the south side of the house but still let in the light.
At night they give us privacy, but not as fully as you would want in a bedroom or bathroom.
For those rooms the blinds would need to be lined.
Then last week, I found these drapes at Homegoods!
My object was to accent the windows, not cover them,
so all I needed were the two pair.
I hung them high and wide, and let them pool onto the floor, as I've read is the correct way.
The high and wide part was easy, but the pooling on the floor part is a challenge for me,
and I'm often fussing with them trying to get them to look just right.
Here's a photo of the other side of the room so you can envision the room as a whole.
It's fun to see things come together bit by bit.
I'm also pleased with the great prices found at J.C. Penney's and Homegoods,
as window coverings can be ridiculously pricey.
(I'm not advertising for or affiliated with these stores.)

Well, it's almost Friday, friends!
Have a HAPPY, HAPPY Friday
and
a safe and BLESSED weekend!

  1. Not only are they functional but stylish.
(Navy Blue is my favorite color and strips, well I like them, too!)

    1. I've a weakness for red, white, blue and gray! My favorites.

  2. I know your frustrations with the "pooling"... the only room I have curtains is our bedroom - it gets the most light and the curtains help keep it cool in summer and block out moonlight at night. I pull them shut every night and then fuss with them every morning to get them right - which is funny because NO ONE sees them or cares but me!

Your home looks lovely - so fun to see it coming together for you.

  3. What a beautiful room, decorated with taste and class. And a very good way to cover up without losing the light. I love your curtains as well, they give drama and flair to the room.

  5. Nesting is the reward for all the hard work of moving!!! That is the part I am looking forward to.
Everything looks lovely. Cozy, comfy, inviting and not too "decorated" where anyone would feel uncomfortable. It's home!!!!
    Have a good weekend.
    God Bless~

    1. Yes, the moving and renovating is not fun, but fluffing the nest is my favorite!

  6. Your home is beautiful...as I knew it would! Love those bold drapes...they are perfect with the blinds. Our house is situated all wrong for light; we have windows, but not a lot of light. I'm trying to convince my husband that semi-sheers are adequate in our family room because the side street is far enough away. I'll be looking at new blinds to replace the infamous mini blinds in our bedroom and one bathroom. Again, you've done a beautiful job of decorating your new home.

    1. I'm grateful for the light in our ew to us home. We had limited light in our former house, too, so I know your struggle.

  7. Thanks for the peek into your living room! I do love the shades you purchased, and the curtains, too ... still letting the light in, yet giving a sense of privacy. Am sure you are enjoying the fresh, new look!
