A few autumn changes...

With the arrival of autumn I made a few small changes to my September mantel.
I decided to make a small walnut garland to hang under the metal letters that spell JOY,
my word for 2014.
Last year I made a longer walnut garland
I wanted this one to be quick and easy, and since the walnuts would be hanging above eye level,
I didn't care if the way I attached them to the twine was pretty or not.
This was so easy!
I just poked small tack nails through the twine and into the "soft spot" on the top of the walnut.
I could push it right in with my thumb!

If you want to see some photos of the wooden cubby seen to the left in the photo below look here.

Some wood-like pumpkins and a squirrel that I got at Kohl's a couple of years ago
 complete my easy mantel changes.

I switched some wheat for the lavender I usually have in the wall basket by my cow painting.
That was an easy autumn change.

Some favorite wool felt pumpkins and an acorn that I bought from World Market a couple of years ago
 come out every autumn.
Being soft and kid-friendly, the littlest grands treat the pumpkins like balls if I don't keep an eye open!

We had some rain today, which was a good excuse to make a pot of soup as our first supper of autumn.
I hope your first day of autumn was a great one!

still following,

  1. Your mantel looks wonderful! I love the walnut garland. Love the sound of your soup, too - yum!! (We're actually having some nice, warm, summer-like weather here - yay! I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.)

  4. How cozy! I love your mantel decorating - and you have me thinking about decorating for each month, or at least each season. In fact, I just showed my husband your post, and told him how much I would love to have a mantel. Currently, we don't have one, but it's on the *bucket list* of future projects!

We live in the mountains, and so I adored your squirrel, walnut garland, and the wool felt pumpkins and acorn. My creative juices are pondering today...

    :-)

    GOD BLESS, Elizabeth!
