Valentine Mantel 2014..

Last year I wanted my Valentine Mantel to be completely neutral and calm.
You can take a look at it here.

This year,  I still wanted to keep it simple, but with a pop of red.
So, I simply spray painted my wooden X and O with the same red spray paint I used on my lamps.

You can see in the photo above that I also spray painted a frame the same red
and hung a heart shaped grapevine wreath inside.
(That was before my cow painting was done.  Now "Bonnie" hangs above my old blue dresser.)

These galvanized tin hearts were IKEA Christmas ornaments I got in 2012.
I love that I can use them more than once a year!

I'm loving my preserved boxwood topiaries!
These exact same ones can be found at Homegoods for $30 each,
but my Safeway store had them on a shelf of closeout stuff in the floral department
for a fraction of the price.
Score!
They had some blue gingham type ribbon on them when I bought them.
I put this nicer grain sack style ribbon with the red stripes around them instead.

So, a pop of red or totally neutral ~
what do you prefer?

still following,

    1. Yes, I suppose it depends on my mood. Both neutral and a pop of red can be nice.

  11. I like it both ways! I do the same thing - sometimes I leave it all whites and neutrals and sometimes I add a poop of color.

  12. Your Valentine mantel makes me happy with its pops of red and bits and pieces. And I'm giggling at Jill's comment above with the 'poop of color.' Heehee! I'm assuming she meant 'pop!'
