Old iron bed...

Years ago my mother-in-law gave us this old iron bed.
It was an ugly pinkish beige, but from the start I loved the design.
Fifteen or so years ago we painted it white, and it's been used in the spare room ever since.
{The grandkids call it their room, and begrudgingly let us use it for guests.}

We've had our good friends from Missouri here visiting for several days.
Today they had to go home.
As I laundered the sheets and remade the bed, I was reminded how much I love this old bed.

I'm a bit ashamed that I'm not a sheet ironer now that I look at this photo.

A heavy cotton throw is folded at the bottom of the bed.

Next to the bed is the old rocker that a friend and I remade a couple of summers ago.
I still love it, too.

I'm thankful for this comfy little spot for guests and grandkids, of course!

still following,

  2. It's wonderful that you have this cozy spot for guests. We've stayed with friends and family a lot, and often it seems people give little thought to putting up guests. It can be so simple, and in your case, wonderful too.

    1. Thanks friend! My old and fragile homemade quilts are not used everyday on the bed, but this quilt is store bought but looks handmade.

  7. No shame -- who has time to iron sheets? :) This is lovely. I adore your heart of gratitude...it comes through in everything you write.

    1. Just read a tip to iron the sheets after they're on the bed! I wouldn't do the whole thing, just the edge that shows.
If I have a heart of gratitude, it's because of Ann Voskamp and her encouragement to keep a gratitude list. Over three years now I've been counting!

  9. I don't think it's necessary at all to iron your sheets--and certainly not shameful! I'm sure your home is comfortable and welcoming, and that's what counts with guests. However, just for your information, someone (I think it was The Nester) said it's much easier to iron the sheets while they're already on the bed. :-)

  10. I feel the same way about iron beds. We had one forever--painted it orange. We got it second-hand. I loved that bed. We now have a bed made of logs (for our log house) but my old iron bed is definitely my second choice.

Such a sweet post. And the heck with ironing sheets!!
