Another wood caddy…

028

All of the grocery shopping is done.

The dough for the pie crust is made and wrapped and chilling in the refrigerator.

The turkey is thawed and waiting in the refrigerator as well.

Tomorrow I will…

make the dinner rolls,

finish the pies,  (pumpkin, pecan and chocolate),

assemble the green bean casserole

and the yam casserole, (I’ve got to share that recipe with you…divine!),

make the dressing,

make a yummy, buttery concoction of butter, onion, celery, and fresh sage and stuff it under the skin of the turkey and put it in the roasting pan so it’s all ready to pop in the oven on Thanksgiving morning,

make sure the tablecloth is ironed,

and straighten up the house one last time.

We’ll end the day by picking up youngest daughter at the airport.

YaY!

Since the goodies aren’t made and the table’s not set I have nothing to show you

except…

024

another little thrift store wooden caddy that I found a while back

made of heavy 1980’s style oak.

I “antiqued” it up

by dry brushing on some flat white paint,

sanding it to distress it in spots,

then waxing it up with brown shoe polish,

(the kind in the tin)!

025

The Saturday after Thanksgiving I’ll deck the house for Christmas.

I have some cute plans for this little guy!

Living a thanks giving life…

008

I sit before my keyboard, tears in my eyes, as I realize that thanks giving has changed me,

changed my life.

Not Thanksgiving the day, but thanks giving the life style.

I started listing my thanks in my little green journal on September 27th, 2009.

“I’m lavished with love, grace and favor by Jesus” was the first thing I gave thanks for.

Two years, two months, and almost 1500 thanks later I realize I’m happier, more content,

more mindful of how blessed I am.

Thanks Ann for starting me on this journey of thanks living.

I continue to count my thanks

piling up gratitude day by day

in my little green journal.

The trees are shedding their colorful fall leaves.

The foothills of the Cascades are dusted with snow.

The ski lifts on Mt Hood are opening this weekend.

Winter is coming…

Friday’s Favs…Camas Antiques Holiday Open House

I love Fridays!

It’s the Hubs day off and our date day.

Last Friday we went to Camas, just across the Columbia River from our home in Portland, Oregon

and a little east of Vancouver, Washington.

We ate lunch at one of our favorite spots, Twilight.

I had their fabulous tomato basil soup and their delicious flat bread bruschetta.  YUMMM!

Then, the Hubs patiently read on his I-Pad while I browsed a bit at the Holiday Open House at Camas Antiques.

(Thanks Honey!)

The front window displays are so lovely!

It’s almost Friday again.  Woot! Woot!

Wrong theology, wrong living…

The fog lies low in the gray green evergreens on the hillside outside my window

The rain drums on the roof over my head

The lamp glows cozy on the table beside me

This is the world I love

The world that feels comfortable safe to me

This small world of home and family and just us

And I’d like to stick my head in the sand and pretend there’s nothing out there

No news is good news

Don’t tell me about football coaches who molest little boys

Or child sex trafficking right here in my city

Or the economy spiraling out of control

And wasn’t Jesus supposed to come and sweep us all away before the world got so ugly

So maybe I’ll just stick my head in the sand

And pretend the ugly doesn’t exist

And stay right here

Until He comes

Elizabeth

Update:

Just felt the need to clarify that I am being facetious in the above post.

While my flesh my want to ignore the ugliness and hurting around us and stay tucked away safely in my comfortable, cozy little life, I know that the Word of God teaches that we are to be salt and light in our culture.

I have also had a theological shift in my thinking in my latter years regarding the coming of Christ.

When younger, His return to me was the great escape of the lukewarm church from a hell bound world.

I just don’t believe we’re going to get off that easy anymore.

Wintery painting…

About a year ago I decided to try painting.

So I bought some brushes, acrylic paints, and canvas and just went for it.

I don’t really know what I’m doing.

I’ve never taken lessons or classes or anything,

but I have fun playing at it.

I decided to try painting something wintery, and this is what I came up with.
