I was rereading The Nesting Place the other day.
In it, "the Nester", Myquillin Smith, writes about things not having to be perfect to be beautiful.
She also writes about using things you already have in different places or in different ways
instead of rushing out to buy more stuff.
She got me to thinking about how I wanted a "beefier" chalkboard for my dining room.
Here's a look at the one I used to have in there.
It was fine, but I wanted one with more substance.
In my home office I had the perfect one, a bit larger with a more substantial frame.
Having the nicer chalkboard in my home office,
where no one saw it but my husband and I, didn't make a lot of sense.
I hung the smaller chalkboard in my home office
after filling the nail holes from the larger chalkboard and painting over them.
Since the frame on the larger chalkboard was a stark white,
I did a quick brush of gray craft paint on the frame of the larger chalkboard.
When it was dry, I distressed it quite a bit with sandpaper,
then I buffed it with some dark wax to give it an aged look.
It was a quick, easy and free project!
I'm glad I didn't go out and spend money on yet another chalkboard.
