And I know He watches me...

In recent days I've caught myself humming or singing the old song, "His Eye is on the Sparrow".  Now, I know the birds in my photo above aren't sparrows, but the meaning found in the lyrics of "His Eye is on the Sparrow" is in line with this scripture in Matthew 26 that says if God cares for the birds, how much more will He care for you and I.

His Eye is on the Sparrow
lyrics by Civilla D. Martin

  1. Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
    Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heav’n and home,
    When Jesus is my portion? My constant Friend is He:
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
    • Chorus:
      I sing because I’m happy,
       I sing because I’m free,
      For His eye is on the sparrow,
      and I know He watches me.
  2. “Let not your heart be troubled,” His tender word I hear,
    And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
    Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
  3. Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
    When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
    I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

    Aren't those words powerful?  And they're true! (Join me for the rest of this post on Sunday, June 5th, at Woman to Woman Ministries where each Sunday I share a bit of Sunday Soul Food!)

  5. Isn't it amazing to ponder God's care for those tiny, fragile (but amazingly resilient) exquisite creatures? I'm working on Matthew 6 right now so your post comes at a terrific time for me.
