The Good Shepherd...

In my husband's message at church last Sunday, he mentioned the scripture in Matthew 10:20 where Jesus tells his disciples that He is sending them out like sheep in the midst of wolves.  At first, that sounds like like a horrible thing for their Lord to do to them.  As I pondered that thought, I felt like God dropped some insight into my heart.  He spoke to my spirit that He can send His disciples, including us, like sheep into the midst of wolves, because He is completely confident, and we can be too, in His ability to shepherd us.  In John chapter 10, Jesus identifies Himself as the Good Shepherd. He then goes on to explain that a person who is just shepherding for the money, will abandon the sheep when the wolves come around.  But Jesus reassures His followers, including us, that He is a Good Shepherd Who will not abandon us in the midst of the wolves.  He will, He has, laid down His own life for His sheep.  We can trust Him to shepherd us, because He truly is good.

  2. Your post made me think, too, about how each of us are living in the midst of "wolves" - and that's where we're supposed to be --- so it makes sense that our mission is always going to have chaos involved. It has my mind turning and thinking! Praying your weekend is filled with God's Shalom!

  4. Comforting and thought-provoking. My youngest son is raising a sheep as his 4H project this year. Adorable. Helpless.
Thanking God along with you that our Good Shepherd laid down His life for His sheep.

  5. great reminder. this week, i was feeling like i was in the middle of a pack of wolves...and i was on Facebook! so many issues these days seem to be like talking to people in a foreign language. words like forgive, sin, church, etc. have hidden meanings to them that are pregnant with emotion that is ready to boil over! ACK! my reminder this week had to do with loving them. sometimes easier said than done! thanks for a great post. hope you have recovered from the wedding:)
