Game day thanks...

My family LOVES football. After church today we went to my second born daughter's house for lunch and to watch the Seattle Seahawks play Green Bay . The game was going so bad for Seattle that it looked like it was hopeless. My husband, whose life motto is, "If you don't quit, you win" decided to leave and go back to his office at the church. My ten year old grandson stomped into his bedroom, upset that the Seahawks were not playing very well and were about to lose the game.  I went on home to our house and called my youngest daughter to ask her a question. " I can't talk right now", she said, "there's only 14 seconds left in the game and it's tied!"  Immediately, I hung up and turned on the t.v. just in time to see Seattle score in overtime.  My husband watched it on his iPad in his office.  My grandson had come out of his room to see Seattle's come back, and promptly burst into happy tears when they made the winning touchdown. His mama used it to remind him that "it's not over 'til its over" and that "if you don't quit, you win".  I'm thanking God, not that the Seahawks won,  but for the good reminder for us all.

Since 2009 I've been counting my blessings thanks to the prompting of Ann Voskamp.
I continue to count my thanks
piling up gratitude day by day
in my little green journal.

  1. Our son and his boys came to watch the game with us. We had been gone for the early part of the game so had recorded it. He and the boys missed the early part, too, so decided to come watch the recorded game with us. I slipped out and went to the grocery store for a bit - just in time to see the last nineteen seconds on the big screen in the deli. As I was checking out everyone was jumping and cheering so I knew the Seahawks had won. I went home and had to keep that information to myself. It was hard to see the boys disappointment and sadness and then their delight when the game ended in a win. It was such fun to have the guys share the afternoon with us. I loved reading of your family's 'view' of the game. In the end it always pays to keep going.

  2. Matthew 24-13 came to life for the Seahawks, didn't it? It IS a great reminder - though for the life of me it seems that the attention we've placed on sports (the money, the enthusiasm, the attention, the time) is TOTALLY out of perspective compared to the attention we give to the Kingdom...

  3. I like your hubby's saying. We all need that gentle nudge & reminder in our lives. I'm sure it was especially uplifting to see your grandson see that message take place yesterday.

  4. It's wonderful when life teaches us a lesson - shaping us without crushing us. What a joy that your whole family shares this passion for football - and that it brings you all together.

    1. I'm the one lone not very sports loving one of our family, but I do start to get into it for the play off games.

  5. I had decided I would be willing to root for the Packers in the Super Bowl....what a wonderful, surprise ending, though! And your saying about not quitting...essentially, that's what Russell Wilson said, in tears, at the end of the game---AFTER he prayed with some of his teammates. (One thing I do want to say to athletes who proclaim "God is good" after a win: He's good all the time!)

Congratulations on your Seahawks victory. Can they do it again??? We'll see soon! I love your husband's quote about not quitting and winning.
