Friday's Favs…..Table for Two

table for two 1.jpg

Who says a meal outdoors has to mean paper plates and plastic utensils?

table for two 2.jpg

Why not use that sweet little cross stitched table cloth that Mama made all those years ago?

Shouldn't it be seen and enjoyed instead of tucked away for safe keeping?

Queen Anne's lace gathered by the road side and placed into a vintage, aqua blue canning jar makes a fitting centerpiece for an outdoor table setting.

Queen Anne's lace always reminds me of the scene in the Anne of Green Gables movies where Anne is gathering the last of summer's Queen Anne's lace on a bluff overlooking the sea.

In the movie, you can see she's a bit melancholy about summer's end.

I feel that way, too.

These Meakin English Ironstone dishes were found while out thrifting last year.

I paid something like 3 or 4 dollars for the whole bunch.

The goblets are from the Dollar Tree!

The silver is a thrifted mix and match for around 25-50 cents apiece.

  2. The Meakin dishes are wonderful - as well as the cross-stitched table cloth. What a treasure. My biggest sadness re. this summer is that it has been SO hot and muggy that I've really not been in the mood to set an outdoor table. Hopefully, we'll still have some cooler mornings (or evenings) soon.

  4. Love your sweet outdoor table! Your dishes are wonderful. What a find! Queen Anne's Lace has always fascinated me. It intrigues me anytime I pass it alongside the road! Your mama's tablecloth is a treasure! I'm thinking I need to polish some of my silver again and start using it more. An outdoor dinner for two would be nice one of these evenings!

  5. What a wonderful table, Elizabeth! The tablecloth is beautiful, and I never can resist QAL or any kind of flowers, for that matter, in a blue canning jar!
In all the years since I went to school, summer doesn't end for me til September 21!

  7. We're with ya on using the "real stuff" outside... almost magical, is it not? We'd love to be invited to dine in such a beautiful setting! Plus china doesn't blow away like paper:)

  8. What a pretty spot you've put together! I can just imagine myself sitting there...it looks so inviting. I love your mother's tablecloth. Hope you have a wonderful weekend :)

  9. Your table looks beautiful. What I'd give to live in a place where I could sit outside and enjoy an elegant meal. Alas, there is nothing relaxing, nor enjoyable, let alone appetizing to eat outside in 100 degree heat with 99% humidity. Ah, the difference between the Pacific northwest and the Mid-Atlantic summers. :)
