It’s about time…

It’s been on my New Year’s goals list several years running.

It makes the list and then gets ignored.

“Write a magazine article”

I figure that’s a more realistic goal than to start with writing a book.

Yet, I haven’t done it.

Maybe it’s laziness, but I don’t think so.

I think it’s not wanting to fail.

I’m doing it now.

Finally writing that article.

Good grief,  I’m going to be 55 this summer so I better get crackin’ on this life goal.

I want to write.

I want to be a writer.

I feel tears welling up just typing the words.

My goals aren’t lofty ones of best selling novels.

Magazine articles and children’s books would make me happy.

I’m the best story telling Nana and proud of it.

There are dozens of children’s books bubbling around in my heart.

But I’m finally beginning with that New Year’s goal.

I’ve been working on the article all week.

It’s a raw and real story about the miracle God did in my relationship with my Dad.

God heals us in layers.

I really believe that.

Just when you think you’re all better, He takes the healing another layer deeper.

That’s what the writing this week has done.

It’s healing another layer,

and that’s a good thing.

Maybe they’ll like my article, and maybe they’ll publish it.

Maybe they won’t.

You’ll be the only ones to see and read it if that’s the case.

Either way, I’m stepping out and trying,

and it’s about time.

Still following,

Elizabeth

  2. I'm so glad you're writing! You won't regret it, my friend. My dear, little mother is eighty-nine years old. She has been a gifted writer, writing many things for churches my father pastored through the years. He always urged her to 'get published' - she never had time! There were children's books and big-people books just waiting in her soul. She wishes she had taken the time! I know she would be thrilled you aren't waiting any longer! Can't wait to hear more about your writing.

  6. Elizabeth, you are an incredible writer from the ridiculous to the sublime--really--you can write about anything and make it interesting to me.

You touched my heart today because I have always wanted to be a writer too--guess blogging makes me feel like at least something I write is worth reading--

    Blessings on your venture!

And I'm thrilled about another layer!!

  9. oh, the enemy is so upset with you...
way to go! you showed him (and all of us) that fear is merely a distraction from bringing Him glory. And that's what you're doing right now. Bringing Him glory. Regardless if it's published in print or here. Yay!

  13. The things God has put in our hearts are there for a reason. The only way you'll fail is if you do not write the article/book. You have nothing to lose. You seem extremely talented, but more than having talent, you're real. That's what people are after and that's why God is using you.

Blessings and Favor on your endeavor!!

well, friend, i certainly think you can write. and i'm rooting you on, from my writing desk, to yours. and you should definitely read "bird by bird" by anne lamott, and "on writing" by stephen king. they've saved me.

  16. You have no idea how much I relate to this post. I relate so much that when you said your eyes were filled with tears, mine already were too. I get it. I have the exact same dream right down to the subcategories. Therefore, I will lift a very specific prayer for this leap of yours that only a kindred soul would know how to pray.

And I'm going to be waiting in anticipation of being able to share the praise with you. That's one of my favorite parts about sharing the petition, you know.

    Now, write...
