Jesse’s Branch…an advent idea

Three years ago I thought of this idea,

or maybe it would be more correct to say God planted this idea in my heart.

It’s a bit of a cross between a Jesse Tree and an Advent Calendar.

All it took was a branch and some simple tags purchased at an office supply store.

Then I chose 25 titles for Jesus and wrote each one on a tag,

with the scripture reference where the title is found on the other side of the tag.

Each day of December leading up to Christmas we add a tag to the Jesse’s Branch.

Each day we remember another aspect of Who He is and all that He does.

Here are the 25 Names/Titles of Jesus I chose with the scripture reference.

Jesus -Matthew 1:21
Savior-1 John 4:14
Son of God- Luke 1:32-35
Son of Man-Matthew 18:11
Redeemer-Job 19:25
King of Kings -1 Timothy 6:14-15
Lord of Lords-1 Timothy 6:14-15
Bread of Heaven-John 6:51
I Am-Exodus 3:14
Alpha and Omega-Revelation 1:8
The Word- John 1:1
The Way, The Truth, The Life- John 14:6
Lamb of God- John 1:29
The Door- John 10:7-10
Good Shepherd-John 10:11
The Deliverer-Romans 11:26
Friend-John 15:15
My Beloved-Song of Solomon 7:10
Bridegroom-Isaiah 62:5
Faithful Witness- Revelation 1:5-6
My Righteousness-1 Corinthians 1:30
Wisdom of God-1 Corinthians 1:30
Lion of Judah- Revelation 5:5

The idea has caught on in our church and now several of the families have added a Jesse’s Branch to their Christmas traditions.

Still Following,

Elizabeth

  1. I love your idea. And the tags are such a lovely creative touch. Simple yet profound. Our Jesse Tree ornaments are still waiting on a tree. My boys have promised me it will happen today!

  2. I love this! I wish I had seen it sooner, but I could still possibly do some names of Jesus for the rest of the month. Really, I think this is just wonderful, especially for a family all "grown ups" like ours.

  3. Elizabeth,

Fantastic! I wonder what it would look like to have a whole year of promises? Wouldn't that be an eye-opening exercise?

Thank you for sharing your idea with the God-Bumps & God-Incidences community. Readers will be blessed by this.
