the Word and wooden boxes…

Well, in spite of everything, I did it! I memorized my first two scripture choices for Beth Moore’s Siesta Scripture Memory Team.

Verse One - “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11 N.L.T.

Verse Two - May the God of your hope so fill you will all joy and peace in believing, (through the experience of your faith), that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound and be overflowing, (bubbling over), with hope. Romans 15:13 Amplified Bible

So for my third scripture choice I am working on another passage with the theme of hope, my theme word for 2011.

Psalm 27:13-14 Amplified Bible

[What, what would have become of me] had I not believed that I would see the Lord's goodness in the land of the living!

Wait and hope for and expect the Lord; be brave and of good courage and let your heart be stout and enduring. Yes, wait for and hope for and expect the Lord.

It has been a blessing to meditate on these verses and let the truth become a part of me. The chalkboard in my dining room with the verse printed out on it has been the biggest help.  I can look at it throughout the day as I am tidying up or cooking.  You can see the chalkboard in the background of this photo.

Speaking of this photo…I’ve loved the header photo on the blog Canadian Cottage for so long.  My South Carolina handyman son-in-law is here, so I sweetly asked him if he would be so kind as to make me “a wooden box” like the one in the photo.  I’m a blessed mom-in-law!

HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!

Elizabeth

P.S.- For all of you who have expressed your sympathies and prayer for me following my Mama’s death, I am so grateful.

  1. Isn't it amazing how the Word, hidden away in our hearts, brings such comfort and HOPE? Your new box is wonderful - can't wait to see all the things you do with it. I need to send you some photos of Pepsi boxes I've found online - insteresting ways to use them. Not sure if I'll stay with my original plan now.

  3. Cheering you on with the memory verses. I enjoyed that blog post where you shared your techniques.

I also love the box. I love that you put the vase of daisies and then one single daisy. That's so artsy and pretty. Me? I would have plopped them all in one vase.

  4. Yes, I'm in the cheering section with Debbie. I started out the year with great intentions for memorization but haven't done as well as I would have liked. You are an inspiration to get started again.

You know, dear friend, that you have been in my thoughts and prayers. The days ahead will not be easy but the Bible tells us the "memory of the righteous is blessed," and my mom's memory has brought me blessing after blessing.

Through your grief, I know that you will be blessed also.

Love the box and the daisies.

    Love,
    Dianne

  5. Beautiful! My son is at a private Christian school and is assigned a memory verse every week. We are using our prayer time at dinner to memorize them together and I know I am benefitting just as much from it! That box is lovely and I'm so glad you linked up to Inspiration Friday this week!
