Mirror makeover…

Well, this is the best before I’ve got of the mirror.  The grandkids were having a sleepover at our house and were having a silly time hanging out in our bedroom.  This also shows some of our before bedroom colors (taupe and burgundy) before our “beach cottage” makeover.

Me with my TERRIBLE painting skills managed to paint the mirror frame. and once dry, do some sanding to distress it.

What possessed me to take a picture with the bed unmade?  Well this blog is supposed to be about my real life so…Anyway, it’s a good picture of the mirror, and of the overall change in the bedroom

Jealous God…

Most mornings I listen with coffee cup in hand, Bible and journal in lap.  I’m reading through the Bible this year.  In doing this I find it more challenging than usual to listen personally and all too easy to approach that day’s reading as something to check off on my daily to do list.  It’s too easy to approach it as a routine more than a relationship.  When this happens, true listening doesn’t.  I come away feeling like my eyes read the words, but my heart wasn’t involved.  I come away dissatisfied.  I want to really hear, and to know I’ve heard.  I want heart to Heart connection. I want relationship, and relationship is all about hearing and being heard, understanding and being understood.

He is jealous for my heart.  He wants this intimate relationship between us too.  He wants me to hear, to understand, to know Him.  He hates our relationship turning into religious ritual even more than I do.  And so He comes into the temple that is me, and starts turning over tables, and throwing out the money changers, and upsetting my neat little apple cart, and declaring in His Voice that commands the wind and waves, stars and planets, “This is My dwelling place!  Her heart is mine!”   Sometimes I’m offended that He messes with my neat little life like this,  when suddenly I realize, I’m hearing Him again.  This God of mine, He’s just not afraid to deal with anything that hinders His love, even my routine.

Well cared for…

Loved undeservedly, unreservedly, completely, unconditionally, overwhelmingly
Forgiven freely, unbegrudgingly, totally
Blessed daily, abundantly, lavishly
Well cared for in every way
Thank You, Papa God

Home again, home again, jiggity jig…

We got home late last night after 11 days of vacation in the sunny and hot, hot, hot Coachella Valley of California.  Instead of waking up to blue skies and early morning temps in the nineties, I woke up to cool air, overcast skies, and the familiar sounds of the birds that live around my house. I will miss the blue skies and heat, but there’s still no place like home.

I simply remember my favorite things…Friday’s favs…I’m lovin’ Joshua Tree National Park

The Hubs and I are lazy vacationers. L.A.Z.Y.  Some people pack their vacations with sightseeing, adventure, and activity.  We pretty much pack ours with the three Rs-resting, relaxing, and reading…with a little shopping thrown in there for yours truly…oh, and some swimming, and some walking so we don’t turn completely sedentary.  But yesterday we actually got out of our lazy routine and took advantage of the fact that there’s a national park just a short drive from here. (Here being where we are vacationing, near Palm Springs.) We had a great time seeing Joshua Tree National Park for the first time.

Ink drawings-transformed…

I’ve had these ink drawings, (drawn by a dear friend),  for over twenty years.

Unfortunately, the frames and mats, were ho-hum and dated.

018

So I took them apart, lightly sanded the frames, then painted them with some 97 cent matte black spray paint  from Walmart.
Once dry, I lightly sanded them again to “distress” them.
Then I took about $1 worth of burlap and hot glued it to the mats.
(I am terrible about taking step by step photos.  Obviously.)
They turned out even better than I expected.
What do you think?
