What Is Humility?

He leads the humble in what is right, and the humble He teaches His way.
Psalm 25:9 AMPC

What is humility? It can often be seen as a weak and wimpy character trait, but in my opinion, it's one of the most powerful, godly traits we can have. Humility is, at its root, truly understanding our utter need and dependence on God. When we have this understanding then we realize we never have a reason to think of ourselves as better than someone else. We realize that all that we have and all that we are is due to God's grace in our lives, not because of some inherent worthiness on our part.   (Join me for the rest of this post on Sunday, January 17th at Woman to Woman Ministries, where each Sunday I share a bit of Sunday Soul Food!)

Sunday Scripture Blessings

  1. Elizabeth, this is truly something I've been thinking on as lately I have been turning to Philippians 2:3. May we choose to be humble, moment by moment, for it truly is the way Jesus will be seen in us.

  2. Thank you, Joanne. You are always such an encouragement.

  3. Great post, Elizabeth! And you are so right. It never too late for us to start. Thank you for sharing!

  4. Words and guidance I truly needed to hear today. I think of myself as humble, but God often asks, "Am I truly who I think I am." "Do I actually see the true me?" I like your ending list as those are hard questions for every day. Love God to pieces, but there are days I feel God is brutal when he asks me to self evaluate. Stay safe and well.

    1. If God didn't love us dearly, like the wonderful Father that He is, He wouldn't discipline us.

  5. It does take strength to be humble. Humility was my word 2 years ago. I often meditated on the verses from Ephesians :"with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."
