Grateful recognition of His blessing...

Everyone knows what it's like to feel taken for granted.
You give a gift, do someone a favor, go out of your way to help a friend or neighbor,
and it seems to go unnoticed, unacknowledged, unappreciated.
We don't do these things in order to receive a thank you,
but a thank you is sure appreciated.
Everyday God pours out His blessings on both those who know Him and those that don't,
on those that give Him thanks and those that don't.
But true love notices, true love acknowledges, true love appreciates, true love gives thanks
and God notices.

Since 2009 I've been counting my blessings thanks to the prompting of Ann Voskamp.
I continue to count my thanks
piling up gratitude day by day
in my little black journal.
(and capturing some of my blessings via my camera or iPhone)

-a beautiful beginning of September (and Labor Day!)
-a pancake breakfast for the two youngest granddaughters
after a sleepover at our house
-them running around the backyard in their nighties while Papa mowed the lawn
-the youngest one taking a long nap giving me some quiet time for my devotions
-five year old granddaughter and her "inventions" and curious mind
-a yummy BBQ with our oldest daughter, son-in-law, and the girls

-a good long visit with my daughter and her hubs after dinner
-an evening run

-talking on the phone to the two oldest grands and middle daughter who are at Disney World
-five year old granddaughter's kindergarten assessment going well
-God's provision
-our dear friend's lab results coming back no cancer

-great bargains, another way God provides and blesses
-a great walk/run around the fitness trail

-the hub's evening meeting cancelled so we had a relaxing evening together
-oldest granddaughter being ok after getting separated from her family at Disney World

-our anniversary!
-the morning sun in my kitchen

-puttering around in the backyard weeding and cutting a few roses

-a Skype call from the kids in Florida
-a sweet anniversary dinner date

-the hubs being content to putter around the house on his day off and clean the cars, instead of us doing something fun like we usually do, since I was sick with a bad migraine
-reading Hope Is Here while being sick in bed

-simple food when I wasn't feeling well-an egg, toast, and applesauce

-feeling much better this morning
-catching up on yesterday's and today's Hosea devotions
-feeling good enough to go on a walk

-the power of God's presence in worship, the Word, communion
-fellowship and a delicious lunch
-watching the two youngest granddaughters while their mama and daddy were busy at a church activity

gratefully yours,

  1. Elizabeth, Another great list of gratitudes. Those granddaughters are beautiful. I think I have the same white rose bush that you do. Just planted it this year. Have a blessed week ahead and thanks for sharing.

    1. It's a David Austin Glamis Castle Rose that I bought from the Heritage Roses in St. Paul, Or. It was a teeny little thing when I bought it and still is quite small.

  2. Love your lists, Elizabeth. A belated Happy Anniversary to you and your husband. Blessings on your marriage!

Sorry to hear about the migraine. I also suffer from terrible headaches, and they do have a way of stopping life in its tracks. But even then, God finds a way to bring us His comfort and peace.

  3. Thank you, Sharon! I'm thanking God that the migraine was gone by Saturday and today I felt fully well and energetic. The migraines leave me a bit drained for a day or two.
