Mama's Oatmeal Cookie Recipe...

We're having a family reunion at the Oregon Coast this week.
All of my siblings and many of our children and grandchildren will be there.

Mama's been in heaven going on three years now,
but, we'll be sharing lots of happy memories together of her.
One of those memories is the oatmeal cookies she made so often.

I baked a double batch to bring along,
half plain and half with raisins.
I remember Mama often added butterscotch chips to the ones she put in our school lunches.

In the above recipe you can see it calls for 1 1/2 cups of flour or a little more.
I would say a scant 1 3/4 cups is just about perfect.
You can also see that for Christmas I make a version with
orange zest, dried cranberries and white chocolate chips.
 Yummmm!

Oatmeal cookies are not the fanciest cookie there is,
but with a cold glass of milk, or a hot cup of coffee, it's hard to beat them!

still following,

  1. Oatmeal cookies are my husband's favorite so I have tried numerous recipes until I finally found a "knock off" recipe for Grandma's. I see your recipe has a little water. The one I have been using has water too. You process some of the raisins in water and make a puree so they are very chewy. Family recipes (especially hand written) are so special! I'm sure the memories are the best every time you bake these. :)

    1. Gina, your recipe sounds really interesting! I made a double batch of Mama's cookies, and they were gone half way through our family reunion!

  2. Oatmeal cookies are also my husband's favorite and I have learned his love language needs to be translated through the kitchen. I love this old handwritten recipe and will definitely try it. I hope your reunion time is filled with wonderful old memories and the making of many new ones. Thanks for sharing with us.

  4. I love a good oatmeal cookie! My grandma made the best and she often added chocolate chips. I think I should head to the kitchen and make a batch right now - using your mama's recipe.

  5. Oatmeal cookies say "home" to me. Don't know why. They do.
It's hard to believe I've been following you so long. I remember your mom, and I remember when she went home to be with the Lord. Seems like yesterday. I know it does to you, too.
