Bluebells and jelly beans…

I grew up in a small town not far from where the Hubs and I live now.

Our large family lived in a big old house.  Our neighbor on one side was an “old maid”, (as we used to call unmarried ladies), who lived in an immaculate older home, and a young couple in a new ranch-style home lived on the other side.  Both neighbors had immaculate yards with beautiful landscaping and flowers, while ours was more of a grass/weed mix that we kept mowed down to an acceptable level.  Mama and Daddy’s money was spent clothing and feeding us seven kids, not on flowers and plants and landscaping.  But, sandwiched between our house and the ancient sidewalk that led to our backyard, a patch of bluebells grew.  Since they grew there seemingly of their own accord, Mama insisted they were just weeds, but in my heart I knew better.  I knew they were flowers.

Not long ago I decided to try my hand at painting.  As is my personality, I jumped in with both feet, not knowing anything about it.  I bought canvas, brushes and acrylic paints and just decided to have fun and try.  On my third attempt at painting, I felt God speak to my heart about the bluebells.  He said, there is someone who thinks of herself as a weed, others may have even told her that she is a weed, but you are to paint the bluebells for her, to remind her that she is truly a flower.  And so I did.  I gave her the painting, explaining what God had said to me.  Since then, I painted the bluebells again.  This one for me…so I’ll remember the lesson of the bluebells as well.  Now, I share the story with you, so you’ll remember.  You are not a weed, you are His flower

  2. What an awesome gift God has given you!! My attempt at painting would be little stick figures. LOL Love your painting!

Isn't God awesome when he takes something like beautiful bluebells then speaks to us a word of encouragement for someone? That's just like my Daddy. Wonderful, compassionate, kind, loving, caring. I could go on, but I'll stop there. You go girl!! Your light's shining bright for Him.

  9. Beautiful story...and beautiful painting! I, too, thought it was an actual jar of the flowers when I first opened your blog! When I first learned to add textures to photos earlier this year, I processed an image of the lowly teasel with textures and added this sentiment by A.A. Milne: "Weeds are flowers too, when you get to know them."

  10. What a wonderful story and painting!! You are so inspiring! After hearing the song "Paint your Picture" from your playlist, the next day I too started a painting to remember that one moment that touched my soul. I to am new at painting but when god calls you to paint you paint.:) Have a wonderful Easter.

  13. My sweet dear friend, I so much needed to read this blog tonight!! I am sitting here typing with tears running down my face. I will never forget that Sunday morning when you came to me with this painting and shared these precious words with me. I was so touched, I felt as though God was personally speaking to me through you. I placed the painting, in my favorite room of the house, my kitchen. A place were I could see it every single day and be reminded of just how AMAZING and faithful God is. I shall treasure this gift forever. I appreciate that your heart is so soft and obedient to the Lord. You will never know just how much of an impact you have been in my life.

I love you foever my sweet sister.
