Vacation day…

I wake up, not with the alarm clock, but with the sun peeking through the bedroom blinds. I grab my cup of coffee, Bible and journal and go to the balcony.  The hot desert wind warms my face as I open the sliding door.   I sit and read and write and sip coffee for as long as I want.  No agenda, no list of to-dos, tugs for my attention.

Eventually hubby and I go for a walk before it gets too terribly hot.   I take my camera.  I take the time to notice the beauty.

When I stop to take pictures, hubby keeps walking.  I speed walk to catch  up, hoping it makes up for my frequent stops and my frequent indulges in the fresh guacamole we’ve been making from ripe California avocados.

We spend the bulk of the afternoon by the pool. I swim, lounge, read, doze in the wonderful, hot sun.

Our big decision for the day is what to make for dinner.  We make a layered mexican dip…lean hamburger browned and mixed with taco seasoning, layered with fat free refried beans, reduced fat cheese, salsa, fat free sour cream, and, you guessed it, guacamole.  We use baked tortilla chips to scoop it up.  I eat two helpings and wonder if using the lower fat ingredients made up for that.

As the evening wears on and the sun begins to set, I find myself back out on the balcony, ending the day where I started it.   The air is still warm with a slight breeze rustling the palm branches.

I savor every minute of the day.  I don’t worry or fret.  I live in the present.

Still following,

Elizabeth

  4. Oh, I'm relaxed just reading your words and enjoying your pictures. Enjoy this time. Living in the present for me now, with two little boys sandwiched around a girl with special needs, involves a whole lot of shouting and chaos, and not a lot of slowness. Beautiful still, but in quite a different way.

  6. Sounds wonderful! Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could figure out how to keep the 'spirit' of vacation when we go home? Enjoy every minute, my friend.
