Friday Faves - Affordable Felt Letterboard

Felt letter boards used in decor can be seen all over Instagram and Pinterest.
They can be used for fun quotes, for leaving your family fun reminders or messages,
or for a favorite scripture or inspirational saying.
The downside is that they are pretty expensive.
Because of that I didn't pursue getting one, but when I happened upon one at Walmart for $9.97,
I couldn't pass it up!

Since I have copper pans and other copper accents in the dining room,
I decided to spray paint the frame of the letter board with copper colored spray paint.
For $9.97 and the price of a can of spray paint, you could personalize your letter board in your own favorite color!

Well, it's almost Friday, friends!
Have a HAPPY, HAPPY Friday
and a safe and BLESSED weekend!

Winter beauty....

(quote by Tom Allen)

(quote by Andrew Wyeth)

(quote by Michael Leuing)

One of the gifts that I received from my husband for Christmas was a new Nikkor 40mm 2.8 prime lens.  I've enjoyed playing with it.  Today I took a few moments before I began the busyness of the day to capture the beauty that can be found in my own backyard even in the bleakness of winter.  (All three photos were edited with Kim Klassen's Monday texture.)

Sunflowers and copper...

The last several days have been gray and rainy.
I only use natural light when I take photographs, which can be challenging on gloomy days.
In the first three photos in this series I overexposed the shots purposefully,
in the last three I left them a bit more dark and moody,
which, in this case,  I think I prefer.

Light and airy or dark and moody, what is your preference?

the Lighthouse...

The Lighthouse
By Ronnie Hinson
(c) 1971

There's a lighthouse on the hillside
That overlooks life's sea.
When I'm tossed it sends out a light,
Tis a light that I might see.
And the light that shines in darkness now
Will safely lead us o'er.
If it wasn't for the lighthouse,
My ship would be no more.

And I thank God for the lighthouse,
I owe my life to Him.
For Jesus is the lighthouse
And from the rocks of sin;
He has shone a light around me
That I could clearly see,
If it wasn't for the lighthouse
Tell me where would this ship be.

Everybody that lives around us
Says tear that lighthouse down.
The big ships don't sail this way anymore,
There's no use of it standing around.
Then my mind goes back to that stormy night,
When just in time I saw the light;
Yes the light from that old lighthouse
That stands up there on the hill.

And I thank God for the lighthouse,
I owe my life to Him.
For Jesus is the lighthouse
And from the rocks of sin;
He has shone a light around me
That I could clearly see,
If it wasn't for the lighthouse
Tell me where would this ship be.

If it wasn't for the lighthouse,
Tell me, where would this ship be?

Barns...

If I've got my camera with me, I rarely pass by a barn that I don't photograph.
On Friday, my husband's day off, we went for a drive and I captured these three beauties.
My favorite is this one that's barely standing.
I'd love to salvage a piece of the old barn wood.
For Sonography, some lyrics from the song
Grandpa's Barn by the Roys
"There's an old rusty tractor
Sitting there in his barn
Still covered in dirt from working on his farm
Theres an old faded calender
From Johnson's hardware store
Still says July 1954
There's a piece of that ladder
I climbed where he couldn't see
I smoked my first and last cigarette
And I turned john deere green
No he never told momma
When he caught me he just laughed
And said son that won't make you a man

Today the sun was shining as the family gathered round
Teardrops were falling as we laid him in the ground
But i knew where i could come to be with things close to his heart
There's a lifetime of memories
In grandpa's barn

I rolled back the cover
On his long white cadillac
At ten years old he let me steer
Sitting there on his lap

There's a picture of grandma
That he kept in the dash
An old 8-track
His favorite Johnny Cash
In a corner of his tackroom
Underneath his cross
There's a worn out Holy Bible
The one that saved him when he was lost
It said remember son
You've got to get down on your knees
And thank God for the blessings you receive

Today the sun was shining as the family gathered round
Teardrops were falling as we laid him in the ground
But i knew where i could come to be with things close to his heart
There's a lifetime of memories
In grandpa's barn

I'm reliving a lifetime
In grandpa's barn"

As welcome as the flowers in May...

After a beautiful wedding on Saturday, the bride told me to take some flowers home.
Today, I did a little photo shoot with one stem of these sweet purple flowers as the main subject.

(edited with Kim Klassen's just a touch texture, lighten, 20% opacity)

(edited with Kim Klassen's dream it texture, hard light, 30% opacity)
